I have a .psd image that Ive made in Photoshop CS, but I need to export some of the layers into Flash 8. I've tried exporting them as .gif's but I get a nasty jagged outline around it.

After some googling Ive discovered you can use the 'matte' option to specify the background colour you want it to blend into, but this only seems to work on flat colours. After all; whats the point in setting a transparent background if it can only blend into one colour??

Does anyone know what I can do to get the images working properly in Flash? should I try a different format?

Yes, use a layer mask to get your transparency area, then save the image as a transparent PNG. Import into Flash, you'll find the transparency stays and is MUCH better than trying to use the typical GIF export. With this method, getting your mask very tight is the key to a good image in Flash.
