Im currently scanning 6x17 images on my nikkon 8000 scanner in 16-bit mode, im scanning a panoramic transparancy in 3 sections. Im then stiching them together in photo-merge but I have to reduce them to 8-bit images because photo-merge wont accept 16-bit images. Is it ok to reduce the images to 8-bit for photo-merge then increase them back to 16-bit in photo shop without losing any pixel information, or will this information be interpolated?
