Trying to create transparent gradients for a shadow of the right and left side of a website that will be on top of a pattern background and the png images keep the white in them.

When I save in photoshop I do save to web, png24 transparent....
What is happening?

Let me guess, you're seeing the white only in IE perhaps ??
This is not a fault of Photoshop, but a problem with IE6 and below.

When you open up the saved PNG in PS, is it transparent ?

Hmm.. IE7 is supposed to be able to handle transparent PNGs.

Can we see the code somewhere ?

I know what the problem is your not deleting the white background layer, delete the white layer and then save it for web as a png and it should work hopefully. (tell me how you get on)
