I've been having some difficulty with resizing a large image to fit a image place holder.
The original image is in larger format and I have compressed it to a .jpg to reduce the size of the image. I am trying to reduce the size of the image so it fits an image place holder size:
Width: 401px
Height: 161px
Can any1 suggest how I can go about reducing the image without compromising the appearance of it. When I just reduce the image then the contents of the image become way outstretched and does not appear professional.
The problem here is that your placeholder size isnt in the same proportions (401 x 161) as your photograph (1000 x 667). This means that simple resizing it to your placeholder's size is going to distort it and make your happy couple short and fat.
Unfortunately the only way round it is to crop your image, and lose some of the background, so its in the correct ratio to be resized correctly.
The way i would do it PS would be to use the marquee tool and set it to a fixed ratio of 401:161 and drag that over your fullsize image so you get as much as you can in and more importantly what you want in and what you can ditch. Then crop it. Then resize to fit your placeholder.
Just as I thought regarding this image, the only way is to crop it and remove the top part of the image, or find another image that will suite the place holder.

Thanks for reminding me of the marquee tool, I fully forgot about it and thanks for recapping my mind of it.
