Hi Im really new to webdesign any help would be Greatly Appreciated!

First, I am building a Ecomerce Webstore and im going through PDG Software (its a Quickbooks Third Party company) which is basically the skeleton for the store. They have Templates but not what i wanted so i decided to download a template from monster template.

Second, I am using Adobe Photoshop CS3 to edit each page of the template. I changed logos, words, colors, etc. it looks Awesome! But! i cant save it from PSD to HTML. Like i will select all the Slices to Save but when i save it and open the HTML file only the top logo comes in and its not in the right position and my nav bar is all jacked up.

Cant i make one Ginormous Slice to cover the Page? and save that one? I know i am a newb to all this haha please someone give me a crash corse on this i know nothing about Slices and stuff

Any help would be much appreciated i am in over my head!

You could, but that would be a VERY bad idea. The size alone would slow down your site, never mind the other problems with doing it that way.

You should NEVER use Photoshop to export HTML, it's awful. Try this instead:

ok thanks! but now what if i have already edited it in photoshop and want to export it in photoshop using the save to web Feature... Is there a Guide to show how to use the slicing in Photoshop? cause thats all i have,

also the template i have already has slicing in it but i changed the look of stuff.. so when i save to web do i select every slice and save? cause I tried that and only the logo changes in Html Document...

As far as slice layering, are there ones i need to bring to the front? or push to the back?

First of all if you make it into one big slice your website would take forever and a half to load.

Go on file>save for web and devices and then slice it there. You can save it as a gif there. Not 100% sure if it will work how you want it thought. Havnt made a website in Photoshop for nearly a year lol so I'm kind of lost myself. Anyways

Try to slice it up evenly. If you want to then go file > save for web and devices. I would recommend opening it in dreamweaver and changing it to CSS. But you dont have to. But be warned. It will NOT be seo friendly if you just export straight from photoshop

Now that is one broad statement to make. Now in this particular case

you are correct.
BUT not in all cases.
When you create a site design in PS, then slice and export it for "the web". It is usually only a page template that is being created, the text elements and navigation elements still have to be added to the design.

What you have to be aware of when posting broad statements in forums, is that the post will be read out of context and somebody will take it as ALL PS exported templates are "not SEO friendly".
Please be aware of this and quantify statements, in this case it would have been by quoting the pertinent section of the original post.

This probably seems that I am being overly pedantic, but there is more than enough myths and mis-information around without it being added to accidentally.
