I understand your wanting the site to be different. I would too. But I think the difference you should try to draw attention to is how the 'company' is different. What does this company do that no other company does? I cannot read the language, so you may have already done this, but have you considered adding a value proposition? That would be a great way to put the company's differences right there for everyone to see. Then you would be free to style the layout however you wanted. So what if it's similar to other travel agencies' websites. The value proposition scream's "THIS COMPANY IS DIFFERENT: HERE'S WHY".
But, about the changes you made. They do make the site more alive. But once you drop below the banner the alive part disappears and the site is dead again. Try making the rest of it come alive.
