remember to press alt key first to select the part of the image you want to clone from. without anything more to go on it's not easy to give more help

Thanks for your reply. I know that i have to press alt to clone from the image, however it dosen't clone anyhting from the image. Please can anyone help?

with the alt key pressed click in the area you want to clone then release the alt key now you can you can 'paint' with the selected area. make sure you aren't trying to clone from outside a selection - is it a flat image or one in layers? try it on a flat image first then see if there's something like locked layers or a selection on the layer you're cloning from. what version of PS do you i have?

Dear davemies

Thanks for the reply. It is version 8. In the layers, there is a lock symbol in front of the background, could this be the problem and how to resolve it? I am sorry for troubling you but I am novice with Photoshop. Thanks a lot.

i only have v6 but if you click on the lock symbol it might unlock - otherwise look up 'lock layer' in the help files. hope that helps!
