I find it hard to believe that all these millions of people on the internet are paying $700.00 for the retail version of Photoshop. Where are you getting it?

Why is that so hard to believe? There is a reason that Adobe is still in business and people like you and I are that very reason. For a long time I used to buy Paintshop (since version 7). I finally decided after downloading the trial of PhotoShop CS, to save up for it and I don't regret that decision at all. It is a good program and worth they money.

mpfeif101,
The software is available by download only and as such, you don't get the manual, certificate of ownership (license) and so on. You are also excluded from being eligible for technical support from the software manufacturer.
Everything above contributes to a majority of the cost of buying a piece of software, and with plenty of help available on the internet through forums such as this, it is an excellent service.
Regards.

I believe anyone considering "purchasing" software from that site should very carefully do their research. I read the Terms posted on the site and some things don't sit well with me.
Quote:
2.3. You cannot register the software with the manufacturer and updates are available not for all the products;
2.4. You do not receive printed license documentation;

Now my Granddaddy had something he called the "smell test." In his old age, he taught me that if something doesn't smell right, don't put it in your mouth. It was a valuable lesson and I pass it on to you now.
What manufacturer would want to sell highly discounted software with no licenses and would not want that software registered.
FYI, the registrant for that domain is located in Latvia.

Yeah that site is def fishy. If any of you are familiar with the current case involving the web site "www.allofmp3.com" , I'm speculating that this site is along the same lines only with software instead of mp3s.
Also, keep in mind that different countries engage in different pricing, copywrite laws, and multiple other legal issues regarding basically anything. This site may be perfectly legal if you live in the country it is based in. However if you do not live in said country you could be in for legal toruble. More importantly your fincial purchasing information will be sent to, well for lack of better words, a shady company.
It always has been and always will be true that if it seems (smells) to good to be true than it probably is. Plus isnt the whole point of purchasing software, so that you will be able to register it, recive upgrades, and have the possibilty of using useless tech support.
Just my centage on the subject

Hi,
Photoshop is a professional software, and if you're good, you'll get the $700 back pretty fast.
I think they have trial version as well, don't they?
Cheers,
Jan

Photoshop isnt really meant for people who are interested in playing around with building websites etc.
Photoshop is really for the professional artists who get more than $3,000 to do a single project, and who support themselves off of their graphic work. For people like that, spending $700 is nothing for a tool that they absolutely need.
I couldnt afford photoshop when I started, so I used GIMP. Once I got enough money I purchased Photoshop.

Well I totally disagree with this assertion. Who the product is "for" you would not even get Adobe to agree to -- they want the entire world to use their product, not a select few. The fact that it costs a significant amount of money does not immediately relegate the product to professionals. I spent over $1000 on my last camera and I have no intention of making money from the pictures I take with it -- does that mean the camera wasn't intended for me?
Photoshop is for whomever wants, needs and acquires it.

If you are a student / teacher, or know someone who is, you can purchase Photoshop for around $299 or less. Adobe seem to offer good student discounts. I taught a course at a local college and managed to get them to order it for me. If you visit the Adobe website they have a list of resellers.

**dont Buy From Soft4download Or Downloadable Software.net

These guys are a nightmare scam. Google "soft4download" and you will see why. Once they get your money you cant get the software and there are no live phone numbers to call just voice mails. ALSO for some reason after you buy the software, you cant get back to the site you ordered from. You can leave messages until your fingers bleed from typing and you lose your voice and they never call back. I ordered $139.00 in software they charged my card $143.00 DO NOT BUY FROM THEM.
IT IS A SCAM!!!!

I own 5 adobe products(P/S, Premier,After Effects, Illustrator, and Page Maker)...all bought and paid for, all registred. I agree with Logo Maid that if you are a professional you will make your money back...and if your a hobbist you will have very powerfull tools to enjoy your hobby(big boys love their big toys...lol) I don't think Jasong was to far off the mark either, at one time P/S was considered a tool for pros...that was when the professionals where using machines way more powerful then consumers using the old 286 machines that could only run something like "printshop" and mac and pc didn't cross platforms...but i'm sure adobe loves the fact that professional and consumer machines are now on a more even playing field..and consumers can now run their products...if the price is shocking to you and you look for a cheap way out like the sites mentioned earlier (from Latvia...lol) and cheat Adobe on their product...they will have to compensate their pricing for people who get their product this way...it's not unlike auto insurance...those who buy it legally have to paid an added cost for those who don't...
just my 2 cents
Mitch

I agree with that. And contrary to Kyrnts beliefs Adobe created PS for web developers not everyone. Sure they don't care who uses it and since they get $700 for the software they would want you to but Photoshop is for professionals. For those who can't afford PS or aren't looking to go into web development there is the GIMP which for a free program is pretty swell.
