Making entire websites in Photoshop??

Hey dudes!
Here's one more n00b-question from Norway; A friend of mine told me that I could make the entire website in Photoshop, but I said no, no, no, no... You must have misunderstood something!!
Now that I read a little bit on Adobe's websites I'm a little bit confused... Can you actually make the entire website in Photoshop? With correct HTML and everything??
If so, Adobe has just earned themselves a new customer!

Fireworks 8 can do all that for half the price! Apparently you can create css popup menus with fireworks too. Not that I'm biased...

The ability to create an entire website in Photoshop is rather limited to creating graphics and slicing it. Photoshop will place the sliced images into tables but this is not always useable.

No, that's what I though too... You can do the excact same in Fireworks MX, so I guess it doesn't really matter...
Since I'm using Dreamweaver, I like using Fireworks because they go so well together... I think I'll go for the new Studio 8. Thanks guys!

yes it can be done -- but if ur not too familiar with photoshop it will probably take u a long to time to finish da entire site. i say use fireworks its easier, it can do all that in just a click.

I would not bother to use photoshop except for creating graphics and logos - but one question - how do you do the slicing? WR

With the slice tool. It looks like a knife. All you do is click and drag. You should use "Save for web", instead of "Save As" and select the slices you want to save and the file type. When you press save or whatever it is, it brings up a browse window. put it where you want it, and there will be a dropdown menu for saving only the slices you selected or all slices. Also, there will be a "Save images only", "Save images and HTML", and "Save HTML only" dropdown menu. That is basic slicing for you .
Just my personal opinion... I hate Fireworks.

I thought it was Adobe ImageReady that did the slicing?

Yeah, but generally I use Photoshop. I'll personally use ImageReady for things like rollovers and stuff. I don't know... I usually have PS open, so I'll use that, but you're right. ImageReady is better for those kinds of things.

Yea same here. I also use the slice tool in Photoshop. But sometimes to make button animations I use Imageready. And you can't really make a whole website in adobe photoshop technically speaking. Means, you can only design one web template in adobe photoshop, slice it up to convert the sliced areas to images/html, and then use database or whatever resource you have to generate pages using the same template. I think your friend meant that you can design a whole website template in adobe photoshop, not a whole website. Because a website is collection of webpages... so more technically speaking you can make one page at a time in adobe photoshop. WOW, being really technical today .

Photoshop is great for DESIGNING your entire website.
Notice the empahsis on DESIGNING.
How you DEVELOPE it after that is entirely up to you.

Photoshop Websites

I've used these tutorials, and they've saved me considerable amount of time in my learning curve about slicing and creating websites in Photoshop. Perhaps they'll help you also.
This one gives you a step-by-step approach to designing a website from scratch.
Here's one that can show you exactly how to slice.
And this tutorial shows a step-by-step approach of Photoshop to Dreamweaver, scroll down the page a bit to see it.
I've never used Dreamweaver, so I hope this one helps. I use either HotDog Pro or Rapid CSS 2005, and I love them both (I also use Notepad for quick fixes.)
Just my 2 cents,

You can actually export it all when you save for web, just be sure to slice it. The problem with both Photoshop and Fireworks, is that they use an excessive amount of spacers, so the code is no good and very time consuming to clean up. Keeping file sizes smaller is very important for the web.
So your better off exporting the slices only and using a good editor like Dreamweaver to build the HTML.

If you were only doing a photo web site you could do it in photoshop using the automate menu item but that's about as far as it goes. I guess maybe it could be done by I don't know why anyone would go to all that trouble when there are better and easier ways.
Personally, I use dreamweaver.

Hello people... This is my 1st time here so let's see how it goes.
I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0, a great program for sure, but I guess I still have to learn how to use many of its features. For example, I was wondering if I could create my own email backgrounds or stationeries with it... Can I? I know I can create my own smileys & animated gif images but I don't know if I can actually create email backgrounds... Can anyone tell me?

Don't write in all bold and large print and don't ask your own questions in the middle of someone elses thread. Then you might get an answer.

I use to use Fireworks MX for many many months. Then I actually learned photoshop, and trust me its 100x better. To people that think otherwise, you are not experienced enough then.
