basically i had a picture that I added text to using photoshop. Before i did it my download speeds were around 10 seconds, now it is 31.
Is there any way to make it quicker using different software or some how to make photoshop cut down the time?

You need to save it for web. You can do that from the file menu. It will create an optimized file that will load much quicker.
The selection "save for web" or "save optimized" I can't remember which.

Can you show us the page that the image is on? I suspect HeyGeek is right in saying you need to optimise your image to get the filesize down

Ditto on the lack of optimization of the new image. I would think that's the problem, but a link to the page would help.

See what it is, is my header image. I place my before and after bankruptcy .com title on the image and it drastically went up on my download time for mainly dialup.

Looks like the optimization might be the problem. I think the image now is about 65 KB and saving it for the web through Photoshop as a medium quality jpg will reduce it to about 23 KB.

Hello,
I thing that we speak about your header image that have a text on it.
So if we speak about that, you have to consider several things....
1st
you must be carefull and check you settings when you export the image for web to be at medium resolution (the "nature" of imge help you to reduce the res.)
2nd
Do not create the layout for your page with tables...
(i say that is better to layout the design of your pages with C.S.S. beside with tables) Tables is used to display pure text...
The browser used to read tables with text inside the tables., when you use the tables to layout the graphics of your website that ,"confuse" the browser with a bad rersult and dealay of your download time.
P.S.
I could explain you better but my english dont help ,me
But if the prolem exists, i am willing to help.
So sorry for my english....

I agree with dref on the medium setting when saving a .jpg imgae for the web in Photoshop. I usually go with the standard 30 quality.
By the way dref your english is fine. I know I understood everything you were saying.

As a quick guideline to web images:
Logos that don't need transparency: Use JPG and "Save for web" option, with a 30-60% setting.
Logos that require transparency: Use GIF. PNG isn't universally supported.
If it's text that's causing the problem, try rasterizing the text before the save (this depends on the version of PS you're on).
For Powerpoint:
Typically, design for 800X600, and save for web with a 60% setting.

Chris how did you save it in Photoshop? When just saved it as a medium jpg (quality 30) it reduced the image size to about 20kb. I;m still seeing your as 63kb. Just that simple optimization will speed up the page a lot.

I didn't inspect it so much when I tried saving it that way, but didn't notice any blurriness. It is possible though. Was it mostly the text that got blurry or the entire image?

the text got really blurry like say the text box that you make to enter the text, it has like dashed lines in it when you buildit. At a highier quality you don't see it, but a medium you do and the text is what gets bad. I don't mind it being a bit highier of a download for dialup, I just hope that people won't click off too quickly

van gogh said that image is about 65k (65431 bytes). That's right and it is so big.
Optimize image and problem will be solved.
People with cable/dsl connection don't see lazy loading, but for modem connection it is lazy,lazy...
BTW, the most important thing is making web pages smaller in KB for faster loading, so you must optimize every image and clean code as much as possible, especially when You work with some of WYSIWYG editors. Each of them write their own lines of code ( read :garbage).
