Hello everyone,

So I know how to make graphics and all but when it comes to sigs that have brushes in them to make them look creative...I cant do it. I downloaded many brushes from palces liek deviantart but I can't seem to do what others do with brushes...mine never looks close to liek there, is there a technique or special effect I'm missing or something...

Thanks

I guess that depends on the effect you're trying to achieve. There are many techniques. Have you got an example you can show us ?

If your using grunge brushes, just play around with the settings. if you want a subtle scuffed look to go on your sig or whatever, choose a lower opacity to go with your brush and experiment.

You have to take into account the colors used and the blend mode. Brushes aren't magical and don't make you artistic. They're just mediums that allow for creativity. Play around with different color combinations and blend modes, brightness/contrast and the color saturations of different layers.

The brush tool itself has blend-mode settings in addition to the blend mode you can set for each layer that a brush is on.

Okay so when doing blend modes what are some suggestions of good one's to use, and should I use a different color and blend mode on each layer or is that pretty much up to me?

It's all up to you
With blend modes, you just have to experiment. I'll put something on a layer and then I'll scroll thru the blend modes to see which one gives me a better effect for what I'm after. Since the blend mode works with the layer directly UNDER it, you can get some dramatic differences.

Stacking layers, each with their own blend mode can be quite interesting. Try it with photos some time.

I guess this is all about experimenting them, trial and error and creativity. Inspiration is also important, try looking at those works that inspires you the most and then start work from there. Slowly, you'd find your own way/style of doing it.

Good luck!
