Photoshop CS2 brightness problem

I'm at the end of my rope.

Every image I open in CS2 is extremely dark. All the settings and profiles are at default. When I save a .psd as a .jpg, the .jpg appears with normal brightness in Image Viewer.

I also have Photoshop 7 installed, and everything is just fine there.

Can anybody help me out with this? My college Photoshop course uses CS2, and I'm not able to finish many projects at home because of this issue.

Thank you very much in advance.

What monitor profile are you using, if any, and do you have any color management turned on ??
