I would like to hear some of your strategies for making money from affiliate programs.

Do you add affiliate links/banners to your current website and cross your fingers that your gonna make some money?

or

Do you get a domain make a quick site and throw a bunch of affiliate links up and then drop cash on advertising?

how do some of you do it?

I am doing good with contexual programs right now and would like to start exploring the affiliate world.

jeremy860: If you have decent traffic or a large enough or recurring member base then you should be able to make money through aff mktg. It really is no different than other forms of marketing. The basics still apply as far as you need traffic and you need folks that like or trust you and so on. It doesn't hurt to try it and see for yourself how it works for you and your site or site(s). It is completely free to join most networks and programs.

To promote affiliate products/programs, I've found it very helpful to create "Product Reviews" or "Program Reviews". It's also good to not just send people directly to an affiliate page, but rather to a "lead capture page" or "squeeze page" on your site which collects their name and email address and THEN forwards them on to the affiliate page. This way you can follow up with your prospects, since most people don't buy/join the first time they visit a site. And after you've followed up a couple times, you could also then promote OTHER products/services which are similar to the one they originally came to your site to check out. This method helps you cultivate your prospects rather than just let them leave without every knowing who exactly was checking out your site.

If you are in a multi-level affiliate program, you may want to use an easy push-button/plug-in viral marketing system (like the one in my sig file) for easy duplication.

Anyway, these are just a few thoughts.

Humbly,
Trevor Dean

Myspace is a free networking hub for anyone to join. You create a profile about yourself and hookup with friends and whoever to talk about whatever. It's extremely popular amongst the 18-25 or so demographic.

I use a review site I had professionally done (thank you Rich Jerk!) that reviews a couple business ideas available for download through clickbank, each of which I am an affiliate with. So upon arrival to my site the potential customer never sees a sales pitch, but rather a guide to help them along in their search. I also have google adsense content related ads up on the sides of the website to draw in a little more revenue. You'll have to see my second link in my sig for an example.

It's a good strategy. I am doing the same.

You must learn how to market to your list, otherwise you can loose it.

Your first question should be: what do you want from your list.

Important: Your list is actually not a list... It is real people like us on this forum, and you must treat them like real people, interact with them...

I use a combination of techniques:

* blogs and blog commenting
* article writing
* e-zine solo ads

Often I don't promote my main affiliate program at all but try and "earn" the right by showing them that I'm a real person and I have good information to offer. Those that respond to that I work with and will give them everything I've got in terms of knowledge and direction. It's just tough (and expensive) working your way through the "NO's"

Wait... I am finishing my report!

I will send a draft, then complete it later.

Tip: an excellent advice from John Reese (if you don't know him, he made more than $1,000,000.00 in less than 24 Hours).

He said: "Release Crap And Make Money From Your Crap"!

Don't get stuck doing nothing... and trying to be perfect.

I don't know about twnuck, but you should try the following. You should be a good writer and have some references as well as knowledge on your topic:

Guest blogging - Lots of bloggers like having guest authors write on their own blogs because it attract new readeras and also lets the "native" blogger have a little time off. If you know a blogger in your niche ask him if he needs a guest blogger, or find a blog that is popular in your niche and ask the author about it.

Find a topic-specific site - For webmasters and webdesigners the sites of choice would be Sitepoint and Digital Web... Sites like rely heavily on contributors, so you have one foot in the door already. Find sites like there in your niche.

In both these cases, considering you are writing probono (for free), you should be able to get the following on each of your published articles:
- your name
- a short text about you and your blog/site (with a nice big link)
- a picture of you (to draw the readers eyes - no you don't have to be a model, just a nice picture will do it)

As for myself and my "strategies" I think that blogging as well as blog commenting, and viral marketing in general (del.icio.us, Digg, Reddit, ...) are the best ways to go if you want a more work-intensive promotion strategy then a money-intesive one...
