I recently found a niche market that show ~50,000 general searches in Overture and 5000+ purchase targeted searches (i.e. buy product online, order product online, etc). PPC by competitors is virtually non-existant. Natural rankings are there but I believe I can get a site easily to top 5 if not top 3 relatively quickly, and the marketing and design of the sites are lower level. There are a few good looking affiliate programs that I believe would be well worth my time in this area.
I'm looking for any advice/resources in market analysis. i.e. competitor research, customer reasearch, etc. Is there any way to find out the average order size for a market or do you need to just get that type of info from the merchants? I always feel that merchants tend to fluff those stats when trying to attract affiliates to their programs.
I also found some content sites that are a wealth of information and am tossing that idea around of attempting to purchase one or two of these. How does one go about determining fair value for a pre-existing site? Particularly if you are going for the site content and not for the domain.
Also how would I go about determining a realistic conversion percentage to set as a goal in this situation? What factors do you look at when you are deciding the profit potential of a market?
Hopefully this isn't too broad a post. If nothing else it gives you an idea of where I'm at in my planning stages.
Thanks
