Is there a need for a viral site manager?

Hi,

I am busy writing a site to handle most aspects of viral marketing, (more on that below), but before I spend 00’s of man hours completing the site I was hopping to get some input from this forum.

What will it do?
  • Handle all payments, refunds, complains etcs.
  • Handle affiliate payments.
  • Handle all emails, (send/receive).
  • Create new viral site from time to time and allocate them to the top marketers.
  • Scripts updates.
  • Manage new sites registrations, hosting and so on.

What will the users do?
  • Market the site(s).

In other word we will handle all the coding/scripting side of the work all you will need to do is promote a site(s). We will even handle the registrations of sites as well as managing them.

What kinds of sites are chosen?
  • Anything and everything, from computer ebooks to crafts.

How many people will join?
I want to limit this offer to 10 or 20 users at the most. But it will take time to find dedicated marketers who will actually use the system.
Because each will be given a site to use it would be a waste to keep users that are not interested in marketing them properly.

What are the costs?
  • Probably 1% of the total revenue as well as a small monthly fee.
  • ...not sure

You thoughts on the above idea would be greatly appreciated.

Um how are you defining viral marketing? I don't see anything in your post that makes the service specialized for viral marketers.

I am not sure I follow, as my OP mentioned, I have, (90%), created a site to handle almost every 'technical' aspect of a viral website.
- Payments
- Email management
- Affiliate payments
- creating/researching new sites
- Handling refunds/payments/complaints

and so on, all the user would need to do is promote, (with their lists/skills), their sites. Each users would be 'given' a site to promote so they will get 100% of the profits, (less affiliate commissions).

As I said in my first post, I was asking for opinion before I complete the work.

Most marketers are not good coders, (and the opposite is also true), so with my site a viral marketer can concentrate on marketing, while we will handle all the technical aspects of the operation, (see my previous posts).

Every month, (or so), you will get a new site to market and that is all you will need to worry about.

We will take a small commission, (1-5%?), for the service.
Because of the small commission we will limit our service to successful marketers only, (the better they are, the better for us).

Okay but again, how are you defining "viral" because there still isn't anything about this that makes it geared towards "viral" marketing. I'm not saying there is no market for your service, but I think you've got the wrong idea about what viral marketing is.

If you have a site that sells an ebook:
  • You can give your users a sells page and hope they purchase.
  • You can give them something free and give them more either for cash or ask them to invite x friends for the same deal.
  • You can give your users a sells page and hope they purchase and if they invite x friends they will get something more.
  • Offer an affiliate percentage in the hope that they will bring in more visitors.

The first case is simple viral marketing as you are not getting more punters, you told them about a new product and they liked it. You hope that they like it so much they will tell their friends.
The second and third cases are viral marketing as well, but you get a much bigger list of users that can be informed about the site, (rather than word of mouth alone).
The last case is indirect marketing, (they know about your product but not via you), the affiliate will use whatever technique to promote your site.

Have a look at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viral_marketing if you are still not sure.

The service that I am proposing is to handle all cases on a technical point of view.
That is, creating the sites, harvesting the emails, contacting new users, handling payments to affiliates and so on.

We will not go out and promote your sites, but we will do everything else, even create new sites for you to promote, (using viral marketing).

But as the title say, we will manage the whole operation so all you need to do is concentrate on marketing it.

I'm fully aware of the concept of viral marketing and, even with the above description, this isn't striking me as a viral marketing service but I wish you all the luck in the world
