Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum is crusading against misleading Web ads, and AzoogleAds is the first to bear the brunt of his push for online ad industry reform. Yesterday AzoogleAds agreed to pay $1 million to Florida's new CyberFraud Task Force following an investigation of the firm's online offers for mobile ringtones. The AG claims consumers in the Sunshine State and elsewhere have been "victimized" by online marketing practices, typically implemented for lead generation purposes, that fool consumers into signing up for paid services without clear consent.

This has always been my argument about many if not most aff sales and why I get p***ed off when people slam ME for using somewhat shady tactics in other areas. Ringtones, free iphones, free ipods, all of it: it's garbage and we all know it. If ONE affiliate ever tried to actually complete the process to get one of these, they'd see it for what it is.

My question has always been:
What is the difference between driving visitors to your site legitimately (i.e. organic search, ppc, links etc) and selling them total crap like this or driving them to your site "illegitimately" (i.e. myspace jamming, redirects, etc) and selling them total crap?
NONE.

The end result is that you're making money on some poor slob who thinks he's getting something for nothing.
