Hello all,

I am in the process of setting up an astronomy site and I would like to offer various books through my amazon affiliation. I was wandering if this pays out much for any of you and if so, are there any techniques used to help boost sales? Any other ideas, tips?

Thanks and take it easy,
Dave fromTPCS

How about not going through Amazon. They give a very low commission. How about signing up as a affiliate directly with the publishers? Many have their own websites and affiliate programs. Amazon really is a middle man trying to make you a 3rd or 4th middle man.

By selling directly from the publishers you can also save your customers with the end price.

I would also suggest affiliate programs with some discount magazine sellers.

I'd recommend against amazon as an affiliate program except for a few circumstances. This isn't one of those circumstances. I'd apply to others like CJ and see if I can find something you're looking for. Amazon pays out low commissions and the cookie is only 24 hours (I think) so if they buy it after that, you don't get the commission.

I think the great thing about Amazon is their web services and how easy it is to make links that point at product pages. As the above posters said, they don't offer great commissions, but if you are more concerned about ease of posting links, they're a great way to go. There are WordPress plugins out there that can help you do so in your posts and pages, too.
