your keywords, presumably relating to financial markets, stocks and shares, would be WAAAAY more profitable than average
he/she can't measure themselves against you
but I do personally think 20,000 page views is wasted if all you get is less than 50 cents! HOWEVER, it all depends on your content.
This forum we're on seems to use affiliate ads, and seeing as this forum is for experts on all this stuff, they may well be the good shepherd leading the way for you! As the geyser said to me daaan in the ghetto - do as i do, not as i say.
i mean, we're all salespersons of some sort, and if you do what we say, that would mean handing over your cash to us, usually for something you don't need.
I used to have 600 uniques a month and earn £200 even up to £500 in some very lucky months.
I'm rebuilding the same thing and hoping to get 6000 uniques a month! heaven knows if it will add up the same - markets fluctuate, and right now we're in a big recession.
Allegedly google adsense IS in trouble in terms of growth, so maybe you ARE onto a bad thing, but who knows. I would NOT use any other pay-per-click network, though, adsense is the only 'real' one - in terms of real money. Where you get 34 cents from adsense, the "alternatives" (other than yahoo, presumably, but i haven't got approval from them yet, perhaps because my traffic's got a lot of british and even chinese - for the website in question, that i submitted to them- they told me i'm on file ready to be checked for approval...) will pay you 0.0034 cents.
i'll give you some free consultancy here, so when you make money out of it, come back, go to my sig link and spend a LOT of money or the karma will be against you:
go to an affiliate network.. affiliatewindow is good for us brits, but commission junction is pretty vital since a lot of key traders are only there. sign up to the network, then sign up to lots of programmes suited to your users -
think about what football supporters will buy -
alcohol sales make good money on the web - i've often made a huge pile of cash that way
also team shirts - everton shirts - you can easily find a sports affiliate programme selling football shirts
also sports equipment - i have dozens of sports affiliate programmes i'm on, although i haven't got round to including them all in my site yet
try that out for a month and see what happens
if it's still no good, come back and ask and i'll suggest some other things
i don't suppose "online dating" is "cool" enough for football supporters... so that probably won't work, but then what do i know about football?
electricals is a good generic field to target a male audience with
if you had women in large numbers, fashion can be profitable - but i wouldn't recommend it for a football forum
naturally if you target adverts yourself, you make a lot more than going through a network who does the targeting for you (adsense will keep lots of the money for themselves that through more "direct" sales of the ads you'd have been paid in full)
you could even try going to local businesses or national ones, ringing by phone and saying
"I have 30,000 everton supporters looking at my site every month, and I'm happy to let you try out advertising to them at £100 per month"
After 150 phonecalls I reckon you'll have a few people trying it out. If they make money out of it, they'll stay longterm.
