I've never been a fan of these pay per install programs because i dont think its ethical spreading spyware and other junk into the visitors computer. Now ARNIE as governor of california has signed this new law:

See: California Enacts Anti-Spyware Law

at:

http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3414851

Fair use exstraction: "It also bans software that cannot be uninstalled or disabled, or that makes it seem as if the software has been uninstalled or disabled when it has not, or software that blocks or disables security software, including anti-spyware and anti-virus programs. The law sets forth a private right of action whereby a consumer could seek damages of $1,000 per incident and applicable attorney's fees."

jeez, its about time -- I keep my system completely clean but hopefully this act will spread to other states soon.

I flew out to Pheonix last week to visit my aunt and grandmother and their computer was so plagued with ad/spyware you couldn't even use it. Adaware picked up close to 700,000 entries if I remember correctly.

it will only be a matter of time before it does become a federal law.

It'll probably take one big case which involves billions of dollars and federal statutes would be enacted.. think of how much damage spyware/adware does to a computer...

I've been doing some reading on this and some suggestions for lawmakers. How do you think this will affect those that have sites with ActiveX, automatic install type stuff?

Dave

Hopefully those installers will go away. They're useless.

Well, Dave, I don't think it will affect most of them. The activex popups have a disclaimer on them, and they give you the option to not install them. If you do, it is because you clicked on the "yes" button and accepted the terms. Nothing illegal at all about that.

However, there are some activex installers that don't ask you, that install in the background, and those are the ones that this act is targeting. I was offered the oportunity to put these installers on my site, and they would pay me $3 per install. That could mean thousands of dollars! $3 per install is a lot of omney, since the opt-in popups pay you 20 cents, so you can see the difference.

However, I continue to offer the 20 cent ones, and it makes me more money than my 10 hour daily job.

Good news! I wonder how many pay per install sites will decide to shut down because of this though? Not many I'd say.

There is a network that pays $3 per install. I don't need any newbie correcting me.

I won't tell what one, last thing I need is people spreading this. At least the normal active x asks you is you want to install or not.

Hello,
Does this mean that spreading Acive X is good thing???
I have many years of experience in this industry.A newbie in forums doesn't mean newbie everywhere.Always think before you post.
Also you could recommend the network to start doing active x so that user can decide whether to install or not.In this way you could earn money legally.Thanks..
I know all of the active x programs & who manages them.According to me there is no such n/w who pays this much.Don't post anything just to get attention. If there would have been a n/w u would have posted it.
