Hi guys
I have seen bloggers with 4 or 5 banner ads spaces spare, yet they want to charge $20 US a month to book them !

I have tried some of these and had very few hits so $ 5.00 would be a better price and they might sell more.

Two reasons:

1/ It keeps the cheapskates away.

2/ They understand the REAL value of advertising.

If I had 10 ad-spots on a blog, I would rather sell 5 @ $20 and have 5 "This space for sale" spots, than sell all 10 @ $5.

Anyone who can write a blog worth reading can do the same arithmetic.

Isn't it obvious they want all the money they can get out of their few dozen unique visitors a day xD It's all about optimization imo

There is something to be said about quality of hits, and simply getting your brand's image out there. As Chris says, these are the people who see the real value of advertising. Sometimes measuring the effectiveness of a campaign isn't as simple as looking at how many times people click an individual link or banner.

At the same time you can't simply throw your money away. Just because it costs a lot of money doesn't make automatically better than a less expensive option, or even free options. Viral marketing works well, social media works well, there are tons of avenues to advertise. Make sure you do your research before spending all your budget in one place.

Seeing as Thai is too principled to push his own services, I should add that Thai has a vibrant forum scoring many millions of page hits, and with a cultured and affluent international membership.

Advertising space is available for suitable and reputable firms. $20 would certainly be a bargain for this premium space. Possibly Thai could even be talked into an extra discount for fellow members of this forum.

I also forgot to add is asking how many hits that spot has sent to other previous advertisers. If it has been known to send more clicks you may want to look at your own ad and decide if it is as good as you think it is. Or perhaps the ad is good, but doesn't appeal to the visitors of that website.

This point is where the link beggars should be reading, because THIS is where relevance comes into play.

You are NOT buying advertising (links) for search engines, you buy advertising for people, and people understand relevance where search engines can cope with Apples and Oranges being fruit, the more tenuous connections such as eggs can be relevant to perfumes is very difficult to reduce to a mathematical formula.
