My site is lacking the traffic I want and need. I'm a real estate investor/businessman, not a tech savvy internet marketer. I understand the need for the latter, however, and would sure welcome some opinions and advice on making my site busier, my rankings higher, and my sales increase.
I want to take this a step at a time. The advice I'm getting is to start with an affiliate program for increasing sales of my products. And to step up in a big way with the use of links to and from other sites, to improve my search engine rankings.
I understand the basics and benefits of these suggestions. My concern is that I do not want to turn my site into a bazaar. The present look is clean and professional, and the feedback I usually receive bears this out.
So, then, how is it possible to have an affiliate program and linking program without turning my e-commerce site into something loud and garish? Do I just set up a Links Page and start listing links to other sites in exchange for being listed on their respective sites?
Thank you.

About link exchanging to improve your search engine ranking is just a temporary solution .Now the search engines starting with google are trying to prevent improving search engine ranking by link exchange and they will do it . The solution to improve your bussiness is to create an affiliate program to put others to work for you. For example you can give affiliates money or only some privileges if they send you traffic from their sites . Also you can give them a percent from the sales they generate and in this way you can earn good money .
I have a lot of experience in affiliates programs and I created 2 . you can see one of them at

Another way by which you can populate your site with affiliate links without necessarily turning it into a "banner farm" is to subtly place text links into compelling content.

The content should be an interesting piece and you can embed links in choice words in the body. Aside from not being too "in your face" and intrusive like banners or pop-ups, you get a targeted audience that's more likely to make a purchase from your merchant site. Plus, you get to keep the neat and clean look of your site.
