Hi all,
I am using Dreamweaver and wanted to develop a little asp page to read from a SQL server I maintain here at work. Everything seemed to come together quite easily but I am not able to view the .asp page I have created. I set it as a second half of a frameset so the file is .htm but I think some settings here at work are blocked because it asks me if I want to d/l the file. I have checked the securtity settings for IE and all seems to be OK, but I do not have Admin acess to the PC here nor do I have IIS but I have installed PWS and have the Inetpub/wwwroot folders wheer my htm and asp files reside in a test folder.

Is there any way I can view my data live from .asp file in the enviroment I am using. I have Win XP SP2

Thanks,
Mitch........

I haven't used the personal web server. Have you set up a virtual folder and all that...?

asp has to be parsed by a server, and to be seeing a save/download dialog means that isn't happening.

Not having admin access to your local machine could make it difficult.
How are you accessing the pages?

BTW making something part of of frameset will not alter how the extension is handled.

PWS is pretty ancient now and well behind in the scripting version, Baby Webserver would be more suitable.

XP Pro comes along with IIS, which version are you running?

He did say it wasn't installed, though. Maybe the admin of the PC disabled it.

I haven't done this in PWS since I haven't used it in about 8 years, but within IIS, you'd have to enable ASP as a Web Service Extension. Wherever the equivalent is in PWS, try to find it and do that...if you can't get IIS installed by an admin.

If I were you, though, I'd get it installed. If they're worried about security, tell them to set up a cheap box that isn't networked and get a flash key to transfer the files (of course, if they're that worried about security, they probably don't know that much about what they're doing.)
