DO you work on ASP nowadays or you have replaced it with other programming language for your new Web Applications?

Most of ASP applications have now been upgraded to asp.net. However, there are still some heavy and complex ASP websites running on the Internet because they are hard to upgrade and requires some programming hours.

ASP.NET is good only because it has the best IDE out of all !!!
Namely MS Visual Studio is an excellent Development Environment that makes your coding like a pleasure. There is a feature named Intellisense which makes your life much easier!

I was just asked by my supervisor to create a site for reports and this is the first time I will be using ASP Classic and the server we are using is still Windows 2003 Server. I'm already reading a book on ASP.net for Visual Studio 2008 and now my boss ask me to create an online reports and unfortunately we had limited resources if I had to insist on doing an asp.net. ASP classic was my only way.

Not everyone knows how to use it and yes, it can require significant programming hours, but I certainly don't think it is obsolete. I just wouldn't call it "mainstream".

I'd bet you'd be surprised at how many sites are still written in Classic ASP. If you have a good code base, where is the incentive to change?

My thoughts precisely.

I have 7 years worth of library code in "classic" ASP code, in vBScript mainly. To convert it all to a .NET language would be something of an arduous task for little or no gain.

I'm still developing in classic ASP. I continue to develop websites and data intensive intranet/extranet applications and reuse a lot of code and functions developed and honed over the years. I do have plenty of books on ASP.NET and c#, but every time I pick them up and read them, I quickly tire and think "why reinvent the wheel". I see a lot of arguments for the ease of drag and drop controls in ASP.NET such as the datagrid, but if you make use of any of the excellent Javascript frameworks out there, most of these controls are redundant. I'll stick to using Classic ASP and continue to develop my Javascript skills, in particular using the JQuery framework, which I've found to be the most relevant web technology currently.

Maybe the old ASP Sites should be left as they are, but any new sites writen from scratch should prolly be written in .NET, it is just more efficient and much easier. Not to mention the MS Web Developer IDE.

Yup, still using ASP. I guess I am used to programming in ASP now, and upgrade to .NET only if I HAD to use it.

I am afraid that I can not go along with you, because I still think ASP is very useful in many aspects.
But I also want to hear your reasons.

I like ASP and i am always preferring to use it. First it's IDE and second is very easy for developing. But PHP is now in demand. I never worked on it. ASP is my all time favorite.
