We use our intranet at work to share files, and I'm able to open xls., doc., jpg., and so on but I cannot open ppt. files. I don't get an error. It looks like it is opening judging by the status bar at the bottom, but then nothing ever opens.

Other users are able to open ppt. files. Is there a setting in my browser options that is blocking me? I run Windows 2000.

I have PowerPoint and use it all the time. It's only when I try to open a ppt. file from within the intranet that it doesn't work. We've changed the extensions to other recognized PowerPoint extensions, and they still do not open on my computer.

Sounds like a problem with the file associations and OLE actions for powerpoint on your machine

How do I change the OLE setting so that I can open these files? Is that common that .xls, .jpg and other files are associated and .ppt is not?
