Using Chrome 3.0, the gray bar looks fine to me.
About the site:
Layout: Love the color scheme. It's an interesting choice, but I think it works. I was never lost or confused about where to go, what to click, etc...
Personally, I wouldn't make any changes to the layout or the color scheme- I think you've got it.
Readability: First, I should point out I'm not exactly "into" motivational or inspirational blogs. However, I believe the biggest issue with your blog is the writing style.
For instance, I found the following paragraph confusing:
Quote:
People worry about all sorts of things. If you are like a lot of people, you know you often worry about junk you should not worry about at all! Unfortunately, many people do not know what they can do, or that they can indeed do anything at all.
Well, luckily for you there is something you can do. And that is to change your mental attitude, and one way is through positive affirmations or positive self talk. Shad Helmstetter, author of the incredibly well-received book "What To Say When You Talk To Yourself" quite literally wrote the book on positive affirmations and positive thinking. With this article I have included a list of positive affirmations excerpted from his book that can help solve your worry problems. This positive self talk can also be very effective affirmations for anxiety.

The grammer isn't "wrong" or anything, it's just lacking flow. Unfortunately, the only way to fix this is practice. A lot of practice. Avoid the use of "that", don't be afraid of contractions or commas, always write with the reader in mind- Things like this go a long way.
I think you've really done a nice job so far - Keep writing and don't give up
