Not quite sure why this is in the SEO forum at the moment, but if you're running Wordpress, enable the Askimet spam plugin - it works great! That'll sort out future spam.

You may also need to upgrade to a bigger package to get more web space, or you could just go to old blog entries and delete all of the comments to save space too.

It is in the SEO because I think some of those keywords might be usefull. I'll make few pages dedicated to spam keyword on my site. If spammers are using those keywords there is probably money in the for people who are legitimate SEOs. Less the 800 or so viagra comments.

Thanks for the suggestion on the plugin.

Dedicate space for spam? Thats really idiotic - no offence. Is your site actually there for visitors to enjoy or just to flip around in search engine rankings, but to put visitors off as soon as they visit?

Spam is no good to you or your visitors - get rid of it. Trying to rank for the wrong keywords, particularly the sorts of spammy ones that tend to get posted, could end up with you moving down in rankings, not up, and people will be put off your site if they see lots of annoying spam everywhere

I agree. Could we move this to the blogging forum? It's growing like a teen ager coming into its own, so putting threads about blogging there will help nurture its growth.

There is a reason that spammers use those keywords for the spam projects. Those keywords usually have good query volumes on search engines or generate higher CTC payouts.

So anyone interested in using those keywords to write legitimate articles could stand to make a bit of money. Anyway I have to delete them from my server becuase they take up to much disk space. I found a plugin I will use to eliminate most of the spam.

While I'm not to interested in copy writing about RX and that kind of junk, there are a few keywords I have been spammed for and wrote articles about. Those article brought visitors to my blog.

Open your database with some GUI tool (phpmyadmin for example) and delete spam comments directly in database...

Try to install a plugin for your blog that will block all the spam comments.

Here you can get it: http://akismet.com/

You just cant waste all your time moderating comments, use this plugin and everything will be done automatically.
Good luck!

I installed spam kharma and that seems to work pretty good. Still getting the 1000-1500 comments per day but I don't really have to look at them.

Does it delete them automatically, like after a week or something? They can still fill up your database even if they're invisible.

Actually I'm pretty sure they are all gone. I'm not sure about the usersname data though. I might free up a couple megs by delete most of the users. When I get a bit more time I have to look up a hack that will weed out spam accounts. The one sure thing to search for is no email address. I wonder if there is a catach all you can put in banned email addresses part to make it so they can't sign up without a valid email address.
