As far as the divs and and YouTube video I've used both and never had a problem with either. I haven't tried to add anything from Google Maps.

There are a variety of plugins that are desiged to make it easier to add code in your posts. There are plugins for most things. In fact here's a plugin to preserve your formatting inside the <code> tags. It's just the first one I found on a search so I don't know if it's the best option, but I would bet than a half hour of searching will yield one you like to use.

I won't tell you WordPress is perfect, but the problems you're describing have solutions.

Every CMS has problems. I like WordPress because I think it has less problems than most others and also offers more than many other similar platforms. I know it's not perfect, but I don't think it's fair to trash WP for not being perfect. It's still better than the other platforms out there.

I'm seeing plenty of "what's your favorite forum" but not too much "and why."

For me it's WordPress. I migrated my Blogger blog to a privately hosted WP blog for the following reasons:

1. Customization. As far as the way a blog looks, feels, and functions, nothing comes close to WordPress for control over options.

2. The feel-good factor. I like that WP is community-based, open source software. Blogger, although free, is owned by Google. Google isn't necessarily evil, but I would rather not have the destiny of my blog dependent upon that company's ever-changing policies.

3. Ability to privately host. Yes, I know that you CAN privately host a Blogger blog, but as I researched my options, I realized that WP would be much simpler than Blogger in the long term.

I thought I was giving some of the 'and why' part. Nathan my reasons for liking WP are very similar to yours. I think compared to most platforms it's pretty easy to customize.

You will need to understand html and css, but you really don't need an understanding of php, though it does help. I think the WordPress Codex is a good resource. I see people complaining about it, but I've always been able to find what I was looking for.

I really like how active the development community around WordPress is. Anytime I need something I can usually find that someone has already made a plugin to do what I want.

The install is as painless as an install can be too.

definately wordpress. i beleive it to be one of the most popular, and 90% of webmasters recommend it when you ask which is the best to use, so if it can please professional webdesigner, it can please anybody

Blogger is easy to configure.

I love wordpress. They are simple and elegant and I can write the blog in my mother toungue and they properly categorize in that area.

I dont know why I just like Wordpress the most.

I have 2 blogs, both on wordpress. Didn't try anything else, I am very pleased with it.

I voted wordpress which were using at http://www.dewittsmedia.com/seo-blogs/ reason being is because it has a tons of plug ins and etc and very easy to customize the stuff I hate about it is the little bugs that pop up here and there, but over all its a great box software.
