I hate free traffic generators. For me, they seems to never work. I find going out and getting in with the search engines works best.

Yes but to do this is hard and a long task. Plus sometimes you can't depending what software you're using. So I say strong back links, signatures in forums and submitting your blog to popular blog sites that accept them.
