A friend set my blog account up, and put in Alex for short. My name is John Alexander. For short, I go by John, not Alex. How do I make WordPress understand this? I know it's a retarded question, but I just don't see where this goes?

In Wordpress control panel, Users>John Alex - edit.

K, in my defense, I never said I wasn't an idiot.

The username field was read only, and I didn't see Alex being pulled from anywhere, so I thought all the blank ones weren't coming into the picture. My bad.

My blog is is wordpress but hosted apart as well, if I understand you correctly then this is what you need to do go to option and modify the info, see attached image

What info did you want to modify? How your username shows up?

That's not the right place to change how your name shows up.

You can change how it shows up from there with the "Display publicly as" part.
