By changing your colour scheme a little to also keep the male audience happy you could see a significant increase in the number of male signups
Remember, not everyone who views your site is going to sign up. If you want to have the maximum amount of signups possible you should target both sexes equally.
It's good that you're excited to be working on the project, just trying to offer some friendly advice

Hi downliner, I think you're right.. the design probably causes the majority of the males to bounce off the page (might explain why I've had no luck with google adwords!) I'm going to leave the design as it is for now though, because it takes so long to change all those pages.. but I'll definitely keep that in mind for the future.. Thanks for your input!

Hi hamesy, thanks for joining the conversation - I love getting input on my websites. We're using one category for all blogs for now because our website is so new, but in the upcoming weeks we'll be separating the 'roomies', particularly those in the popular categories such as entertainment and personal blogs - some niche categories like music will stay in the mainstream category a bit longer because it would make no sense to seperate them and starve those poor blogs of traffic
