Many web hosts offer free installation of WordPress with your hosting account. With your own domain, you have more control over ad space.

Blogger.com actually allows you to put an ad widget on your blog. Much easier then trying to edit the template.

You could buy a domain and then point it to a site like blogger.com. That is, if you don't want to mess around with getting your own hosting.

After you download wordpress to your computer, unzip it on your HD. Make sure all your appropriate mySQL databases and users are setup on your web server. Also be sure to edit your wp-config.php file and enter the corresponding database info.

You then FTP the files to your server, then transfer it to the appropriate directory file (or FTP it straight to the hierarchal placement you want it at). After that, run the installation file (wp-admin/install.php).

You'll then have access to your WP dashboard, where you can do all sorts of things like choosing a theme, editing the code via plugins (or manually, it's up to you).

Since you're new at blogging and I'm assuming you aren't familiar with installing, creating and hosting your own blog using a blogging a blogging software such as wordpress, I suggest you start off with blogger first. I consider them the best blogging platform since blogger is owned by google and your blog will be easily indexed. You can put adsense code in your blogger blog and can make revenue out of it.

The problem with blogging on someone else's platform is that you do not get credit for it. If you are serious about blogging I would install a WordPress blog on one's own domain. Blog advertising and adsense are two ways to earn from blogging.

for a newbie, I think its advisable to try out first blogger/blogspot because its user friendly. plus, putting ads on it is allowed to earn revenue.
