I use Wordpress on all of my blogs. Aside from the fact that it lets you easily put articles and content on the server, it is optimized for search engines "out-of-the-box" and, using some plugins, which are very easy to install and manage, you can make a great optimized blog without too much hassle.
More, you have control over your database, you have way more control over the modifications of the script (later, you will feel the need to add more options to your blog, like integration with social bookmarking sites like Digg and Del.icio.us, tags for technorati.com and more).
I personally would never choose a solution where i depend on somebody else, especially if you are in it for the money :P
