How important do you think grammar and spelling is to a blog?

Very much. I mean it. Spelling and grammar is one of the main "thing" to attract new readers.

I agree with Muhammad... While casual bloggers might not read their own writing as much as they should and have spelling and grammar errors, to the serious blogger who really wants his content to stand out, this is a must. Having "tidy" content shows your readers that you are serious about your thoughts and about your blog. It shows that you respect them by rereading your writings, checking them, making them the best content you can offer.

A serious blogger with bad spelling and grammar is like a politician who tries to sound smart quoting some latin sentencia that doesn't have anything to do with what he is talking about. Obcourse, you should always take care if the bloggers native language isn't english, in which case you should try to help.

Spelling and gramatical errors make you look plain dumb to others, is that what you want?

I'm going to have to disagree with most of you. But I guess it really depends on what type of blog you have and what type of messages your trying to convey.

In my blog I don't claim to be an expert, I only claim to help others where and how I can. And I like to keep it more personal/intimate than "professional" . Not to mention I like to know when I read others blogs they are real people that do make mistakes and aren't afraid of them.

I always did like this quote:

Quote:
The illiterate of the future are not those that cannot read or write. They are those that can not learn, unlearn, relearn.
You can try to look as smart as you want, but that doesn't mean you are.
