A plugin? i have Adsense on both of my sites without using a plugin. Placing adsense could differ in difficulity based upon the theme you are using..

It depends on how your using wordpress. If your hosted at wordpress.com then I don't think you can run ads. You would need to install your own copy on a hosted server. Then you could install the adsense plugin.

the adsense plugin has some other options aside from cut-n-paste insertion code into your template.

You can still run it by pasting it into your template. I'm not familiar with what options wordpress.com offers for that.

Adding adsense to wordpress templates is quite easy most of the time. Most websites have them near their articles, this would work the following way:

Go into your templates folder (/wp-content/themes/) and search for a single.php file. Some templates don't have that, simply copy index.php and rename the copy to single.php.

Open single.php and look for <div id="content"> which should be somewhere near the top. Below that you see some php querries for the title and stuff like that.

Scroll down until you see <?php the_content('Read the rest of this entry &raquo;'); ?> or something similar.

Add a <div></div> before that and add your adsense code between the div tags. This places the code between your title and the text of the article.

You could float the ad by using <div style="float:right">Adsense code</div> for example.

You could just insert the adsense straight into the blog?

Please keep in mind I am new, and there may be a better way, this is what I did. With some help from my son, Bob Schmuck.

Dashboard>Presentation>theme editor>>main index template.

After <div class="entry">
<p style="float: left; margin: 10px 15px 5px 0px">

paste adsense ad here
before
<?php the_content('Read the rest of this entry &raquo;'); ?>
</div>

I also used this templates for adsense that has a place for pics. If its not full screen I have my posts at the bottom and it just shows a blank space. I still have to work out a few things

Please don't judge the site, I'm still working on it, but thought it might help to see where the ads are. It's a WP theme (Sinorca V3) that I am customizing. Jan's Group Home Help
I still don't have ads in my posts when I use the archives, but the first page does so far. I'm slowly learning and teaching myself.

jan you have the adense only on your main page and not on your articles page is that on purpose ? I found out that most users from search engines find direct links to articles avoiding the homepage at first.

Maybe that would be something to think about.

FYI, any blogs hosted in wordpress.com can't put up the adsense code at the moments.

Only those individual sites install with wordpress software can allow to put adsense code.

2 ways you can do it.

1) Copy the adsense code from your account and put in template like left/right navigation, top, bottom of the page --> This is the places where you want your adsense to display permanently.

2) Use plugins like Mighty Adsense or Adsense Deluxe to display your adsense anywhere within the post. Again, copy your adsense code from your account info different ads setting in plugins (for more info on how-to, read the installation guide from the developers).

Blogspots is good but I prefer Wordpress System.
