So I started a blog a few days ago... I'd actually been toying with the idea of starting one and placing ads on it to earn some money for quite a few months but I never really had the time to start on it. I decided to go with Blogger and I'm thinking of buying a domain name if the blog really starts to take off.

Anyway, I'm writing short reviews on flash games everyday so people will hopefully keep coming back. I also did some research last night and it seems like there are already many blogs that do the same thing I do... Do you think I should give up on it and start writing about something else? I was thinking about doing a blog where I rant about stuff, but I doubt that will draw in many visitors. What do you guys think I should do?

Well, even if you write about the same stuff, you can niche by reviewing Flash games only of a certain type or have your own unique voice.

I wouldn't count on making money within several months of launching it. I'd expect half a year or a year, if you work hard enough.

Yeah I used my blog from ages ago so the URL is different. I've changed it now so it's relevant. Is there anything I can do to spread my site around? I've already submitted it to Technorati and some other free services.

Think hard about whether a blog format is the best format for your site. I understand you're recycling an old blog, but I think a more general layout would be much more beneficial for your readers, and give you much more opportunity to place ads on the pages and optimize for SEO.

For example, your home page could show lots of graphics of the games, and have links to the most popular games that people have rated. Each game could have it's own page, with your review and links (ads) to related pages. All of that is very hard, or looks rubbish in a blogger blog.

Oh, and your top AdSense block is half hidden by the blogger bar at the top of the page in FireFox.

I was thinking about doing but my web designing skills are really crap and I'd have to buy a domain name and everything... I might consider doing that after I learn a bit more though.

I changed the template and created a header. What do you guys think?

Did you submit your blog to Blog Directories?

It's a good way to promote your blog and get it noticed by search engines.

Yeah I submitted my site to a lot of directories. Technorati seems good.

I got featured on the front page of Digg last night so that got me about 2000 hits. Lucky break! My ads don't really show properly for some reason... the banner ad keeps displaying a public service ad and my vertical one won't even show up (only on Blogger's preview page).
