blogging is good but you must tag it and ping it regardless.

It will be easier for the search engine to pick up your articles and send people to your site.

and what does more traffic mean? More money.

A good little trick is use it to tag your blogs with keywords that are highly targeted and getting lots of searches. That way you will get more traffic to your blog and then to you site. I have had much success with this, even though people are saying bloggin is dead....its not.

and dont just fill your blog with worthless junk just like on most blog sites out there. If your using your blog to market Make the content so good your visitors are getting juicy information they would normally have to pay for FREE! yes! this works like a charm.

blog often too! people come winging to me if they are seeing no results...but they dont realise you can't just post to your blog once or twice and expect to see 100 visitors a day. you need to keep blogging, tagging and pinging and you will eventually see some great results....now get to work.:detective:

Well said, Michael. Get active in the blogging community. Make a name for yourself. Get on the forums, post insightful comments, don't link to your blog in comments unless REALLY relevant, give links to other bloggers posts, etc. The blogosphere is just as much a highschool popularity contest as it is a source for news and information.

Yes i agree get in touch with others in your niche and go to their blog and ask for links and post links in blog comments.

you never know where this could end up. You could even form friendships and do joint ventures down the track.

blog and pinging is old news, tag and pinging, is slightly newer, but not a hell of a lot effective. As the other guys have said building a user base slowly is the way to go for steady traffic.

100% agree - its the content and letting people know about that content - not tagging and pinging that gets your blog visitors.

And once you have the visitors you need to monetize on that. You can have 50k uniques a month and still earn naff all if you don't monetize on your blog in the right way.

Tagging properly increased traffic on my sites ten fold, but I have not done "pinging" yet because I heard that it can decrease your Google Ranking - is this true? If not, who/what should you ping when you post?

use the traditional well know ones.

that will get you better results.

Just add these to wordpress's ping ability? Sorry for the stupid question.

I let feedburner take care of my pings. So far I get more traffic from sofial networking then anything else I do. Made some new friends too.

I think it's pretty hard to find blog readers because there's just so many blogs out there. There is only one blog I read, and the only reason I read it is because it has unique and creative content that is not found anywhere else. Sure I stumble upon many blogs while searching or browsing, but I forget those after I read the article. I have yet to see another blog that hooks me to keep reading.

What kind of tagging is preferred and what addons do I need in wordpress to do the tagging?

Also what are the urls I should enter in wordpress for my pinging urls?

I think all the novices out there should start with a blog and ping it to places like pingoat and pingomatic....then once have mastered that move onto wordpress....blogging is fun and remember you can get yourself ranked high up in the search engine with the right keywords.

I'll second this one. Its important to post quality content that people want to read - then get it out there. the search engines love the layout of a site - but if there is no content - who cares

i've been doing some of those already

i've gotten alot of hits to my site
from layouts i've done for myspace

and the best things with your blogs is that you can test things and work out what is working and what is not in only a day or two.

otherwise you have to run your sales changes for a week or two to notice a change either positive or negaitive.

this can work for affiliate sales, surveys, competitions, discounts etc etc etc you get the picture

I might also suggest starting a newsletter list from the beginning of your blog.
if you capture an email address, you have an opportunity to remind your audience of you, with quality content, every time you send your newsletter.

If you can't do a full, separate newsletter yourself, then consider an RSS-to-email option like Feedburner's service or FeedBlitz.
