I see lots of turnkey blogs on DP and other sites for sale and they claim the blogs are updated automatically using RSS. Can anyone tell me how this is done? I have a blog I update and post on regularly, and enjoy doing so, but if I can also get other posts automatically that would be great. I'm still really stoopid on how RSS works. :blush:

I see it most on wordpress blogs, I think there's a plug in for it that scrapes feeds and posts them as a post to the blog.

I get peeved off with people using my feeds on these automated blogs, they seem to think it's ok using other peoples feeds to make posts on their blogs. I don't mind if it's a summery of my post with a link back to the origional, but when they post my entire post with no credit given I see it as stealing and I'm sure it can't be good to have a few exact copies of my post floating around on unrelated random blogs.

Over the past few weeks I seem to be seeing more and more mentions of automated blogs, is this type of thing taking off, should we all be worried?

I guess my advice would be that if your going to make one, do it nicely, summarize the feeds you will be using, give credit to the original and add you own thoughts on the posts. I know a few other bloggers that have their feeds scraped regularly with no backlink, credit with whole posts copied and it really peeves them off.

Automated blogs are really pretty amazing and worth having in your portfolio of abilities. If you use WordPress there are many RSS-to-Post plug-ins that read RSS feeds and add them as blog posts.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't reallly looking into a plagiarizing type thing, just trying to understand the process and how it might help me add more on the blog.

RSS is a way that users automatically gets informed whenever you post new articles in your blog .if you use Blogspot for blogging there is a default RSS feed provider else you can use feedburner.com or dapper.com it is easy and you can setup in five minutes

Check out FeedWordPress or WP-Autoblog if you're looking for an rss-to-post plugin. There are better ones out there, but those two are widely used and free. Hope you know a lot about content scraping though, it's not as easy as you think.

I installed feedwordpress onto my blog. Its pretty efficient in order to get posts from news sites that offer RSS syndication, although i cant get it to automatically post from cron bot in my cPanel (I think its called pinging, not sure)

Yeah, the project management triangle is one of the truest things I learned way back in university. The real problem with clients is adjusting their perception of "quality" to reality, heh.

Don't build a scraper site. It's cheap, potentially plagiarism and a quick way to get banned from Adsense.

And really of what value is it? If you can find the content you're scraping, google and the other SE's know about it too, which means your fancy new automated posts are "duplicate content" the second they appear on your site.

aint that the truth, if you got good content give it away for free, makes people think "whoa his free stuff is good, imagine how good his other stuff is"

Content has always been king. the better the content the more people will link and tell others about you.
