Some people use RSS readers to get every new blog / article sort of "hand delivered" to them like email.

RSS is crucial these days with RSS you can view all or part of the story (depending on the setting the blogger puts to give full story or not) but this way users can get the latest updates of your site in real time but also you can ping different sites to let them know you have been updated etc.. it is more of a REAL time way to let everyone via one link that hey my site ahs been update with X content.

rss is the reason for my success on certain blogs. when they were new....this really got me some fast results.

the tip i would give is to put this up the top right or left side of you page above the fold (first screen) and then you will be able to get some good results
