Alright, I recently created my own blog for my niche and I was wondering what's one of the best ways to start marketing it?

If you have good and original articles in your blogs, submit them to article directories like Ezines, etc. Just always use the same URL if you submit the same article to multiple directories to avoid being flagged as duplicate content. Put that article into good use for linkbaiting
You could also do social bookmarking, forum and blog posting on relevant niche, and other link building methods
If you want to be more aggressive and have a budget for it, you could opt for PPC (best if your blog is a landing page for an affiliate product you are selling), links on other similar niche sites, etc.
Just some reminder for your blog : Remember to provide your audience with informative and interesting contents for your niche. Always keep it fresh and updated. Pinging is essential after every update as this sends out signals to search engines' bots to go to your site so that the new contents gets indexed in the SE's lists. Goodluck!

Joining social networking groups like Yahoo!'s MyBlogLog is also a big help.

Adsense is one of the simplest ways, but there is a lot of competition. If you have a product or service, you can earn more Just click here and be on your way to probably one of the most important websites of your life.

What I usually do is:
1. Submit my blog to search engine, directory and some topic related sites.
2. Participate in forum discussion and leaving comments in others' blogs
3. Submit my posts to relevant carnival.
Currently I'm planning to write a free ebook for viral marketing. I think this is another way for me to boost my blog's traffic.

Could you explain how this works? I'm not sure I follow you and I'm definitely sure I don't know know what you mean by "same URL".

I guess you mean "Adwords". Obviously, Adwords is a PPC search engine. Adsense won't bring more traffic to your site.

Hi Brandon!
You do this so as not to get penalized by Search Engines. If you submit the same article to different directories and use different URL's in your site (some do this to build up PR on inner pages within a site), SE's will see this content as duplicates.

It depends what your niche is.
From actual testing, I'd say that using digg, myspace, hubpages, squidoo is highly overrrated, and most people telling you to use these usually have a backend product/ebook/course to sell you.
The best, bar none, method to generate customers (forget about 'traffic') to your site is to build a highly targeted niche blog.
Eg. a Harry Potter themed blog.
Make sure your affiliate programs and adsense are very tightly, (ie they don't leak traffic).
Google and go to bigboards if you need to.
Find the 10 biggest forums in your niche.
Hit them with highly targeted and useful content (use a freelancer or copywriter if this isn't your forte).
For example, if you hit some of the bigger Harry Potter forums with about 80,000 members and about 40,000 - 50,000 of them are active. posting about 30-50 quality posts should get you at least 5-10% of that userbase coming over.
If you aren't able to generate at least $5,000 in net profit from each forum you enter, you'd need to relook at your business model.
-
If you approach 3-5 big forums in this way, you'd get highly targeted traffic who're very motivated in your targeted CPA and affiliate offers...

Wouldn't adwords be pricey though

You need to have a gameplan in place to make any business work.
If your customer acquisition cost is $1 and your customer value is $10, then it makes sense to use adwords to acquire your customers (because you'd make $9 net profit from them).
Take a look at how Lee gives away cell phones on his forums.
He must be doing something right, mustn't he?
-
If you start an adwords campaign, you can use site-targeting to get a higher ROI, plus bidding on the right keyphrases (rather than general ones like "fishing" or "scrapbooking")

When you start a new blog the best way to market it is to get seen. You do this by joining the social media sites and getting involved in forums related to your niche (to include blogging forums).
I regularly read other blogs and make relevant comments on their blogs. I know when someone comes by my blog and makes a comment, I ALWAYS go read theirs as I appreciate the time they took in coming to mine.
Join sites like MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog. People love seeing your avatar show up in their sidebar and will click through to your profile/blog to see who is reading their site.
Growing your blog is not an easy process. You have to make it happen and luckily there are ways to do it. Good luck!

depends if you want to market your blog for free or you want to spend money.
I always opt for money...sometimes you will get tremendous traffic if you hit a source with lots of traffic (unique) coming to their site.
otherwise the free methods you could use are :-
-forums
-blogs
articles
-directories-
- yahoo answers
- myspace-
- facebook
- viral reports
start with these and you will surely get more targeted traffic.

I don't have to comment on other blogs. That's too time consuming. What about word of mouth? My blog name is on of the best in my niche - and its starting to get known. New visitors are starting to leave comments and the blog is starting to rank for a few keywords.

This is actually something that I have been meaning to learn more about as well. I know of one good option and it costs about 50 dollars to do. I am considering trying it I believe the name is automicblogging or something like that. Look into it you might like it.

Article submission, social bookmarking, posting in forums, and commenting on related blogs are all great ways to get word out about your blog and hopefully acquire links.
Remember though, if you don't update your blog with fresh content/articles then people will either not stay on your site when they get there or they won't ever come back once they leave.
So, remember.... update, update, update, promote, update, promote, then update again. Repeat often.
