I've got a number of blogs. What is the best way to get traffic to them?

Comment on similar blogs.

Contact blog owners in your niche, asking them to view your blog and link to some of your content in their upcoming posts.

Just have to be proactive and seek promotion.

Write great blog posts....

Yeah, you need to have the content there to begin with, but good content does not always get found, you need to be a bit more proactive.

If you wrote a great post on a blog that has no links in and has a small readership then the chances of that post being seen by the masses is pretty slim.

If you are proactive and seek links and promotion of that post from sites in the niche then it can help the post reach the masses.

If the site/blog all ready has a good readership then good post will get found.

- Get similar blog link: as comment, blogroll, article exchange
- Put some good plugins
- Submit it to blog and site directories
- Put it in your sig. and comment in forums with the same thematic
- Social Networking

James you do need to promote content no matter how good it is. Having great content is the beginning and it's a necessary step, but let me exaggerate to make a point.

Say you wrote the greatest article the internet has ever seen. It's the kind of article that anyone who reads it is going to agree it's the greatest thing they ever read. But you never post it.

Obviously no one is going to find it because you didn't put it online. That might seem like a dumb example except just putting something online isn't all that much more than not putting it online. There are so many pages that the odds of your page just being found are very low.

It'll probably get found in time, but that doesn't mean your ideas are going to spread. If the content is so great that reading it causes you to reverse aging then sure it will spread, but even great content usually isn't all that much better than hundreds of other sources.

If you can give it a push though and bring in more people to see it initially you greatly increase the odds of your ideas spreading. You'll still need the content to be good. No one is going to spread garbage content, but you also need to be proactive no matter how good your content is.

A page with great content will be appreciated by everyone who knows about it, and by some of the people who run in the same circle. Like members of a forum who read your post but haven't been to your site before. Once you pass a certain point, search engines start to bring you visitors ... but those people are looking for something in particular, and tend to leave when they get it. Good point Forrest. It's that who knows about it thing that's the key. Most people just won't know your content exists. The people here know about you. They might tell their friends, but many of their friends with the same interests are already here. The spread of information can only travel so far.

Ok so we just merged two forums and I think there are 12,000 new members. I assume some were members of both forums and some weren't active members of EF anymore. Still everyone from each forum was just exposed to a brand new audience.

Members on both side should see their subscriber counts and visits go up in the near future as we all get to know one another.

That will happen because we've all now reached a new audience. Same idea with your content. You have to keep getting it in front of a new audience in order to consistently grow.

So you guest post for example on someone else's blog for a few weeks. You present your content to that audience and if the content is good and matches the taste of that audience some of the audience should follow you back to your blog.

I was just deriving out the usual SE Rank checking, blog comment, link exchange, etc. traffic myth responses.

My point here I was trying to make is that if you're already effectively networking, and you write really great content in your blog posts, gaining traffic will be a breeze.

Fair enough.

If you have the network in place then sure your content is probably enough. Most people don't have that network in place, though.

I fond that the best way to boost your sites performance is to team up with 4 other blogs in my niche.

We then guest post on each others blogs, link to good posts on each others blogs.

That way we are helping our visitors find great content in the same niche, can the traffic can flow between us.

It works really well. Just need to find a few more for my current blog.

So to answer the OP, here's what you need, I'd say:

Continuous Quality Blog Posts + Effective Networking = Traffic Increase & Exposure

The big thing these is the Social Networking scene always drives traffice to my sites

Why wouldn't it get found? Let's say you're in a small room and you're giving a great speech. But nobody is in that room and nobody is listening.

You're going to need to open that door and let yourself be heard. Otherwise, you're not doing a good job to promote your content.

As many people said, there are numerous ways of blog promotion:

1. Network with similar bloggers. The best way to do that is to comment on their blog and get noticed.

2. Use social media promotion. Sites like Digg, Mixx, Reddit, StumbleUpon, del.icio.us are great. My favorite among the five for this kind of promotion is StumbleUpon. Of course, it helps to have a strong SU account, so networking is useful.

3. Have good content. If you just have a short blog post adding no value, don't expect to get good traffic. But with the right kind of content and the right kind of promotion, you can beat some records.

The biggest social media tip I can give anyone is be a strong networker. Seriously, there's nothing to lose and everything to gain.

1. SEO your blog
2. Social bookmarking as stated above
3. Signature on related niche (free traffic)
4. A good content (very important), otherwise they will just leave and will not return
5.Blog comments on related sites.
6. If you can afford to have a contest, better (note that this is not working always)
