I just started my blog so I dont expect it to get much traffic yet. Its not the best and I am working on new content and my writing skills.
The thing is almost all of my traffic comes from stumbleupon or social media sites and well its not converting to ad clicks in the least. Out of about 900 page views on adsense I made 17 cents off of 2 clicks. Is that about right for any traffic?
Now I have more than that this month so far I think and yet no money at all.
I use more than adsense and nothing...
How should I promote my site so that it can not get stale and not grow?
A lot of the big time blogs look simple and clean. What do they do that gets all that traffic?
I am on social networks and the traffic stinks.
I can get 200+ hits from stumbleupon per article but 99% of the traffic just thumbs it up and leaves...No add money....no returning people yet....nothing.
Its okay to leave url's to your site on others blogs?
When you comment on other blogs, it should ask you for your URL in the form. So you already have.

Content is king! Leaving your URL twice is redundant, and kind of spammy. Submitting is a good idea for basic marketing, but they generally index most pages, me thinks, aside from directories, and social networking can give you a big boost.

Okay, since you're all social networked out, I'm going to refer you to a couple of articles.
Offer something to your readers that no one else has. Give them a Reason to visit your blog. Put yourself in their shoes, would "You" want to visit your blog, given what you've got on it?

I posted to some of the top blogs on the net such as johnchow and problogger but while I did get some links from pr5 pages I have got NO traffic from those comments with the links in them. Is this the way it goes? Maybe its just for the link back?
1.Blog Commenting,
2.Directory Submission,
3.Social Networking and Social bookmarking
4.Link exchange with high pr website .
you can see increased in your traffic and Page rank..
Well from my month long testing of social media traffic such as stumbleupon and mixx and propeller the traffic is useless for conversions and for all the work you put into sending to your friends on stumbleupon you get NEXT TO NOTHING sent to to other than your friends themselves which they thumb it up and leave just like that. They may read it but they dont click ads.
Anyone else know of a good way to get some traffic? I have been writing better and such but nothing.
I agree that it's always wise to start a regular reading fanbase with the people you know and are familiar with. Then from there you start branching out to friends of friends and then blog hop to some distant blogs, comment and then pretty soon you'd be making strong bonds with online communities.
I agree. By joining social networking, you can invite more friends to visit your blog. Just provide interesting and useful posts so that they become more attracted to see your blog.
You can also add images to your blog. That will also bring some traffic from image search results.
