Tell me when you search on the internet do you LOOK for directories for site? No? Nor does anyone else hardly.

Posting on other blogs also brings little traffic. Even a BIG blog.

first you need to have quality content then you can promote your site using social bookmarking.

Having a blog that you know something about is helpful because then you can write many posts yourself to get it going. All the methods listed here are useful and I would recommend them as well. Word of mouth advertising is great too, when you know of people that are interested in that topic make sure to mention it to them, of course following the rules of whichever place you are targeting them from.

Post fresh and unique content, get quality link back to the targeted keywords and use social bookmarking.

you can also try social bookmarkings and submit your blog to blog directories and post interesting and new content of your blog!

dont just rely on forum posting; bookmark your blog post to social bookmarking sites like Digg, Propeller, and Stumbleupon (this 3 are driving traffic to me); keep on link building it by submitting it to blog directories; once your blog was visible to SEs, you'll get more traffic. Join Blog Rush, too.

I would start by commenting with your link inserted on other relevant blogs.. Find other blogs that have higher traffic, and better page rank to increase your traffic and rankings---> in the end it results in more $$$

A few ideas...

Write a gigantic list of 100 related resources, like 100 Ways to Do _____, or 101 Online Sales, or something like that.

Rather than posting blog entries like "Check out this funny video that Joe made," actually MAKE a funny video of your own.

Spend all weekend long writing a single great post filled with actual research that you did yourself (or that you asked someone else to do for you). Make sure there's a descriptive picture at the very top.

If you're trying to be funny or interesting... make **** sure you're being funny or interesting.

Make sure the purpose of your blog is 100% perfectly clear to visitors the instant they arrive at your site. A good way to accomplish this is with a tagline posted beneath your site title/banner. Say your site is called "Wax Man," and it's about wax museums, then the banner could be something like a picture of the outside of a wax museum, title could be "Wax Man," and the tagline could be "Everything you never wanted to know about wax museums."

Really good thread! I love this forum. Now for the topic: on my blogs I drive trafic firstly from blog directories, digg and stumble then google index pages on these sites with links to my blog and I drive good traffic from google. Just you must work hard and everything will be great.

For long term traffic, SE visibility is the best way to do; but for immediate traffics, try to submit your blog posts in different social bookmarking sites.

as mentioned by the others above, i try to post comments on other people's blogs. i find that some persons do reciprocate by visiting my blog to comment on what i've posted. no drastic increases in traffic here, but if the content's fairly updated and decent, am hoping people will make return visits.

You can also add some images on your blog and try to optimize them. I think this is effective to get more traffic in google image search results.

For instant traffic I have always relied on top 100 sites as a good source to start your up. If one of these are available for the topic your are blogging about you should get yourself listed.

You can also submit your articles to directories like Goarticles and ezinearticles.

Start posting to MYspace, Google groups and other community website you will get good amount of qualified traffic from there.
