Hello, I'm interested in starting a blog that talks about reviews of movies, TV and stuff. (I know, it's been done to death, but I still would like to!) I'm pretty sure I'm going with WordPress, but am not sure if I should get a "free" WordPress address, or should I get my own domain?

What do you think? Would my future web visitors (and potential customers who I hope would click on the ads on my future blog) be turned away if they saw "WordPress" (or likewise, blogger, xanga,...) in the URL?

it depends if visitors can find your site... try increase first the number of visitors..

There is nothing wrong if you are a subdomain of any blog platform. What is important is that people will be interested on what you will blog. Remember: its the content that matter most to HUMAN READER.

Domain names are very cheap in this days, try to reserve your now, the good names are all taken.

you can get a domain name for $6.99 which even comes with free privacy from 1and1.com. if you have a hosting account with any hosts, then you can run the blog from your existing hosting account. all the hosts these days offer wordpress hosting, some need wordpress install and MYSQL setup manually and others offer Fantastico hosting for wordpress auto install. to make long story short, if you are gonna be running the blog for a long time and care about brand awareness, then its better to go with your own domain

if you have a budget then go on to get your own domain, then if you do not have any, you should start first with the sub domain of the blog platform, i think that the important thing is you start to create your own blog for now!
