I am running two similar sites. Both are in the format of a blog, and run on WordPress.
Site #1 is Technology/Computer "How To" articles. I fluctuate back and forth between publishing 3 articles per week to one per day. This site is 2.5 years old, and is getting about 125,000 visitors per month.
Site #2 is a blog where I link to other technology/computer "how to" articles elsewhere on the web. I post between one and three times per day on this blog. It is 8 months old, and gets about 2,500 visitors per month.
Since the topics of these sites are so similar, I am wondering if it would make sense to combine them. The only reason they are separate is because I figured it my be better to keep the "original content" on one domain, and the blog-style stuff on another.
I guess I thought somehow incorporating short blog posts into site #1 might dilute it. Do you think that is true?
If not, do you think incorporating shorter, outward-linking blog posts into the how-to articles site could help its traffic levels and search engine rankings? One upside that I see right away would be that the amount of content on the site would grow much faster.
Can you see any benefit to keeping a blog on one domain and the articles on another?
Do you think I am wasting time maintaining two different sites?
Do you think I could do better by combining the two? If so, how would you suggest I execute it?
So, once again ultimate question is should I publish blog posts and original how-to articles on the same site, or continue to keep them separate?
Any advice is very much appreciated.
