I decided to close my Blog today, as I really didn't find the time to post quality articles anymore. I will completely switch to Twitter now, as it mostly fits my needs.
I'm wondering what you think about this topic. Do you think the number of blogs will decrease because of services like Twitter or Tumblr? Also Friendfeed can in some cases be better than having a blog.
I would just like to hear what you guys think about this topic.

I don't see it coming. Blogs will never die or decrease. There are still lots of things you can do with a blog than a Twitter account. One thing is CONTROL. You have the whole control of your blog. Everything on it. Even a single dot. Compare to other blog-like services like twitter. It should not really be compared.

I think that blogs that are writting fro humans will survive because they have live readers. But blogs for bots may be will decrease because Google will change its algo in the nearest future.

why close it? why not just leave it running? just not update it all the time like before?
seems mad to close it if its already running and not costing you anything

@Nick: Do you have a source for the change of the algorithms?
@MofoDog: You are right, reopened it, until I don't have another usage for the blog, i could still leave it running ;-)

why close your blog? why not just leave it running? I don't think the numbers of blogs will decrease because of tumblr, twitter or friendfeed. There are many things you can do with a blog, your in complete control of it just like the other one said from this topic.. Blogs will never die as long as there are people who wants to express themselves online..

there will always be blogs and I don't think that they would be dead, growing is what I see on them more... there was a time when blogs were almost all text, nowadays, it has videos and images and lots of other plugins.twitter is not that bad for traffic though I don't really see it as targeted traffic.

I agree that blogs will exist in the future but it seemes to me that they will be more technolgical... video will be a best content - as an example You Tube's popularity

i don't think that's the case...as long as there are a lot of people who got interest in sharing ideas and information, it won't die...as a matter fact blogging is part of internet world that is continuously evolving...

thats what I actually thought at the start of the year. I mean most blogs really have a short life span and its because of the time it consumes and the lack of passion of the bloggers themselves

I dont think blogs will ever die. I believe it will just get harder and harder to get into the blogging community once there becomes a big blog in your niche. That blogger will create the standards for the market.

It depends on what the blog is being used for, and the amount of interest the person has in the topic.
My blog acts as a portal to my forum. It has a different domain name, so it shows in in google results pages next to my forum. As for traffic, my blog is my forums 4th or 5th highest source of traffic, sending around 10,000 uniques to my forum every 30 days.
Besides posting articles, I have traffic concerns that helps to keep my blog open. If I close my blog, my forum looses a major source of traffic.
I can not just say, "I have a blog, I'am bored, I think I'am gonna close it." The blog and the forum are tied in together, so that traffic travels between them. If I get a little bored with the blog, I'all start posting in the forum.
If I need new ideas, I'll just grab a thread from the forum, write a small post about it and post it on my blog - with a link back to the thread.
To answer the question about twitter, NO. It can not replace my blog.
I also do video blogging on youtube. The videos are then embedded into my blog. So unless twitter has a way to post videos, I can not use it for too much.

Well, I think some bloggers will prefer using Twitter over blogging, and may eventually abandon their blogs, or at least put less time into them. Twitter has it benefits over blogs, but it also doesn't match up to well-written content that has a reader base.
So I don't think that blogging will suffer because of Twitter, becuase I think that there will always be a reader base for the interesting topics that people blog about.

thats a good post Kevin. Even for me Blogs are life line as they are providing me enough income. I feel its bad for those who have bad writting skills or not enough time for witting quality articles. But they can also outsource this task and continue their earnings. I feel no need to delete blogs.
Regards

Until now blogs are booming and in the near future blogs won't die. This is because blogging has evolved from a fun thing to a business and people want to make money online and promote their businesses through blogs.
