How to stop bots from stealing your content and reposting it

I've noticed that these bots will steal excerpts of my content and then re-post the excerpt onto a bogus blog which has all stolen content and link back to my site

For example, they will steal a paragraph then have a "Read More" link which links to my site.

Is this bad? I would think that it dilutes your ranking because Google will see this as duplicate content between 2 sites.

Is there a way with .htaccess or any way to block these bots from stealing content in the first place? Any preventive measures?

Thanks!

How come did the bots stole your content? I haven't heard of that thing.

Are you sure about this? Can you give or cite the exact content copied from your original site to the one who copied it?

They are not "stealing" it, YOU are giving it away with RSS feeds.
What you are talking about are feed aggregators not scrapers.

content stealing scrapers won't be linking back to the original site.

I don't think it affects you as far as google goes as you posted that content first so it is noted that you were the original poster of it and you won't be penalised for this. I really wouldn't worry about it as unfotunatley thingd like that are pretty much out of your control and hey you got a backlink out of it.

By the way it happens to most of us, I get my content stolen and pasted across the web all the time.

Nope, Google has no idea who was the originator.
