I would say your topic and interests are going to be your main concerns to begin with. You can't really consider money before you know what you're going to write about. Just pick something you're interested in and focus on your content.

I agree. Before anything else consider what you want to write about. If it's something you're passionate about you'll naturally stick with the blog longer and be better able to see it grow. When you have a general topic spend some time researching other blogs on the same or similar topics. Ideally you'd find a niche within the general topic that isn't getting adequate coverage.

When you see a topic with a lot of blogs it usually means there's a lot of interest in that topic. It also means there's a lot of competition as well. If you can come at the topic from a different angle or find a niche within the general topic you have a better chance of standing out.

You should also consider what platform are you going to use. WordPress? Blogger? Other? Will you need hosting? If so where? Don't forget about choosing a domain name. You'll probably want to know your topic first, but as soon as you do start thinking about names and domains.

I think you can and should consider money from the beginning, but I wouldn't place the initial focus on the money. Think topic first.

you should look at your purpose as well... Nowadays most people do what is called as niche blogging. It's like blogging within a certain niche (which may not even be something that interests you) with a goal to profit... I see a lot of people doing it, blogging with profitable topics such as weight loss, financial verticals and so... If you're not into need of profit, I suggest think of something that you are passionate about..

Competition. There's already so many blogs out there it's practically pointless in most niches... you'd have a tough time getting the readership to be worthwhile

True. Competition should really be considered. As well as your interest and what you want to write about. If you want to monetize something out of your blog, you need to consider these things.

I am presently working on two blogs. One with a topic that I really really love (cooking) and the other is based on competition and the search volume (whitening treatments). I should say that I am blogging for interest and money.

I would say something you enjoy doing. That way it doesn't become a chore to do your daily operations for your blog.

Building a blog takes tons of time and many hours a day. I think if you don't enjoy doing it, you will stop sooner or later.

I think your readers. If you're looking to make money, you need to make sure there is a demand for your info or product. Also important to be passionate about the subject.
