uhm, I've coded a custom plugin for my WordPress blog to automatically post new blog entries & blog edits to my Twitter page using the bit.ly service (API key) to link back to my post. the reason why I made my own plugin for my blog is because I'm using an older version of WordPress which I've modified over a long period of time, and I don't want to lose all the work. for the latest versions of WordPress you can use Twitter Tools.

It all depends on what it is about.

Like any kind of advertising, it is most effective where your potential customers are.
The "machine gun tactics" of social media link dropping is largely wasted effort, certainly there might be a few "hits" but most of it will pass by unnoticed.

You can have a lot of visitors to your blog site as long as you do all the link building strategies which are mostly off page SEO but I can say that there must be a focus one while doing the other methods in increasing the traffic for your blog. For me, I'm more focus on daily updates and post with those social networking sites such as facebook and twitter and add friends on my account so that as long as I post a lot of users which are my friends will see my blog site updates and if I get their attention of course there's a 80 percent chance that they will visit my site and that is considered as a traffic

I guess almost all the necessary tips have been already posted, still one important point that i didn't found so far is use of your targeted keyword in Title of your every blog post, this will certainly add some SEO value to your blog.

Obviously great content is where it begins. All the marketing in the world won't assist you succeed if your blog is uninteresting. Assuming you recognize who your target audience is, the first step is to proceed out and interact with them.

Here's a question pertaining to blogs, hope it's relevant. Everyone talks about the importance of back links for ranking, but what about ping backs? They come in as a comment, so should you approve them or delete them. Not sure if they add any value to search engine ranking or not.
