Whilst I've been online for several years and build websites for other people as well as my own, I've never kind of got around to blogging. I now have a blog but am lacking in ideas to promote it. I have a feedburner feed but am not sure which services/directories I should post it to, to gain more traffic.

Try Dofollow lists.. Blog commenting helps a lot in gaining good traffic

Depends on your topic/niche.

You could guest blog on some other blogs to generate some traffic.

Do some keyword research and use a SEO plug in and make sure your SEO efforts involve some well researched LONG tail phrases. Traffic will come.

Write good contents and keep commenting of related blogs and also do guest blogging on related niche

Join groups or forums that pertain to the topic of your blog. Ping your blog after you write a new post. Join blog directories.

write unique topics and conten
join different groups and communities.
link exchane with popular sites.

You could do blog commenting to sites that is somehow related to your site and promote your site on social networking site to get additional traffic.
