I have set up Wordpress on one of my three web sites and so far it seems to be working just fine. I have a decent amount of Bandwidth under my plan and also plenty of space. Unfortunately currently under "shared" hosting.

Problem is, when I installed Wordpress, my hosting company sysop started whining about how hackable WP is and how bad it is....et.....

I have read some of the recent articles claiming that the latest versions of WP are resource hogs. Currently, my blog does NOT get many hits but some day it could. And I want to add blogs to my two other sites.

So, I asked the sysop, if WP is so bad, what else should I use? I don't like the way WP uses crosslinks and a whole lot of disk activity, every time something small is changed. I hate how it clogs my stats with superfolous hits to files I could care less about. But I have no control over the stats program. It's set up system wide.

I'd love to load something smaller, leaner and cleaner, but with still some of the perks of WP. I like threaded comments, I use an AD script and I do some of my own edits.

Any suggestions???

I do NOT want to host from any of the free blog companies and I don't want to spend any money buying a script right now. So things like EE are out for now.

WP doesn't use up much processing power if it is properly employed. This means setting it to cache files instead of serving content dynamically every time. I suspect your host is trying to pack as many sites as possible onto one server, so that they complain about anything that uses up more than the average amount of processing cycles.

To make WP serve static files, check out the WP Super Cache plugin. It's normally only used for sites with large amounts of traffic, but it might be enough to get the host off your back. I've never had a host suggest WP is bad or ask me to take it off their servers. Many hosts allow you to automatically install it even. You may want to look into moving somewhere that is more reasonable.

Good for them, it shows a concern for their customers

They do have a point. There was recently a major security issue with Wordpress whereby thousands of WP sites were being hacked into, because of a vulnerability in the code. The developers issued an update very quickly and encouraged all WP user to upgrade, but not everyone did so the problems carried on.

Wordpress is fine but keep it updated and learn about extra ways to secure it. The same goes for any self hosted web based application.

I did the Wordpress update as my first install, I started the blog right after the security issues. Yesterday I updated to their latest incarnation. I also keep all of my plugins updated.

I will look into the Cache suggestion.

I require all users to login and password before they can comment, so that has kept it pretty much an uncommented blog. I also used a secure contact plugin for contacting me directly.
